Meetings •

It was agreed that under the auspices of Community Education Services, with the assistance of an adult Educational Support Worker, meetings would be held weekly on Thursdays at 2 pm within the 4Real centre at Seaview school. This was later revised due to public interest and demand to initiate one evening meeting to allow those unable to attend afternoon sessions, the opportunity to become members. The evening sessions to be held on the second Thursday of each calendar month at 7pm. Currently the Society meetings are held within the Masonic Lodge weekly on Thursdays. The 1st, 3rd & 5th, of the calendar month at 2pm. The 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the calendar month at 7pm

Subscriptions •

An agreed annual subscription of £2, to be paid on joining with renewal of membership each year by the beginning of the Society`s financial year in January. To this an added attendance fee of 80p per meeting. Monifieth Local History Society is a `non profit` making registered charitable organisation, utilising all finances for projects, field trips and research programmes.

Past Events •

An exhibition of memorabilia and items pertaining to Monifieth`s historic past were displayed in a vacant retail out let, within the shopping precinct, on June 17th 2001 in conjunction with the Trewel Medieval Fayre. This the Society`s first public venture, proved to be extremely popular, when gauged by the numbers of interested people who attended. In consequence part of the exhibition, was moved to Monifieth Library, to allow viewing by more members of the public. The greatest feature in the success story, was the willingness by members of Monifieth Community to loan their items of historic interest for the duration of the exhibition. To them all we are truly grateful. Further exhibitions in 2002 & 2003 were held within the Masonic Lodge, Dalhousie Street, to coincide with the Trewel Fayre. Members of the Society have by invitation attended meetings of organisations and delivered illustrated talks on various topics. i.e. Industry on the Dighty, Monifieth Tramways, Streets of Old Monifieth. Three booklets, one recording a brief History of Monifieth.`Poddlie Raw, the Happy Land then Paradise`, `Monifieth--- Fact or Fiction`and`Monifieth Past`, anecdotes, pictures and historical details from the past, were written and published by a member of the Society. Their popularity and demand both locally and abroad, made it necessary to have further reprints. The production of an experimental calendar of `old Monifieth`, for Society members did cause problems, when viewed by local residents. The demand for copies could not be maintained, without the financial backing for commercial production. Future Plans and

Future Plans & Aspirations •

Expand the sharing of researched information, either by talks, booklets and exhibitions. During the `summer` months continue `Heritage Walks` around the many places of historic interest within Monifieth. Introduction of `Have a Chat Session`. This would take the form of a `get together` of some of Monifieth`s senior citizens, where and when they could exchange their views and memories from the past. The living memory history recorded from those sessions being invaluable for the future. Production of Old Monifieth Calendar 2004. Video Project. To produce video record of the changes that have occurred over the years, within Monifieth Burgh and local area. This would provide an excellent tool to stimulate discussion, within formal and informal settings, simultaneously creating an awareness of the connected social and industrial history . `Monifieth Past, Present & Future` a video of approximately 45 minutes duration will be ready for retailing by the Society in December 2003.

Ultimate Goal •

With the help of Monifieth Community and Angus Council, establish within centrally located premises, a House of Monifieth Memories. This collective point for display of items & memorabilia from Monifieth`s past , either loaned or gifted to the Society, for display to the general public in a permanent entrance free exhibition.
